Any ideas would be appreciated.   By the way, if I manually run the program on the client it works fine.

Policy feedback on LD9

Hi, I'm testing an LD 9 core right now (also with Patch Manager, but that's a side issue to this, really). The vast majority of my machines are behind a Management Gateway and are firewalled, which means that push deployments often are not an option. I use policies and policy supported pushes all the time. Under 8.8 SP3, the feedback I got from policies was decent--sometimes machines wouldn't leave the active state, or wouldn't ever sync a policy down, but for the most part it worked. Under LD9, it's much worse.

5 days ago, I created a policy to install Silverlight on my test group of 27 computers. I know that it was not installed on any of those computers before now. On 5 of the machines, LD9 reported that the installation failed, and gave me a return code of 1514 or 1512 (these return codes don't seem to correspond to anything I've been able to find online). 18 reported "The action completed successfully" with a return code of 0. Good. 2 reported "Successfully completed installation of package" with a return code of 16385 (!). 2 merely say "Policy has been made available" with a return code of 1001.

However, 22 are listed as active, 5 are listed as failed. I've cancelled the running of the scheduled task, and they're still sitting there like that. Wha?

Further, if I run a query on silverlight, all 27 show as having it installed.

Using policies with Patch Manager is even worse. I did a test run yesterday, and I have 1 pending, 4 successful (saying "The client does not support batch file packages"), and 22 failed.

On other tests, I've seen the local policy.sync.log reporting no packages available for multiple checks, while on the core, there's a package, sitting there pending, which clearly has never been run on the client computer.

This is all very frustrating to me. Anyone else seeing this sort of issue, or is my core just special again?

Install Software only if no User is logged in

Hi

Is there a possibility to install certain Software only, if no user is logged in.

In my opinion it is only possible with patch management.

Is there any ways to do this using Software Distribution?

Kevin

Receiving error "Sdclient.exe or the installation program was terminated at the client" when trying to deploy executable package

Running LANDesk Management Suite 9 with Service Pack 2. I'm attempting to install an executable package on a Windows 7 machine. When I try, the console shows a status of "Failed" and the error message "Sdclient.exe or the installation program was terminated at the client. Return code 1." I have never encountered this error before, and all of my other software packages have installed successfully in the past. To be sure, I also deployed a test package that ran successfully.

All LANDesk services are running under the local system account. The log file shows that all of the required files were downloaded to the client, and there are no indications of errors. Here is the last block of text from the log:

There are no errors in the event logs for the device, either. I'm stuck. Appreciate any insights!

Script to query dell warranty and write to registry

$

I currently have about 4300 end points. About 95% are Dell machines.

To date, we have no easy way to pull warraty info, other than exporting specific queries and copying the Service Tags into another script.

I would like to deploy a script (local and via gateway) that will query the device service tag; go to Dell and check warranty info; and report that info into the registry.

I have this VBS (copied below and attached) (courtesy of http://iboyd.net/index.php/2012/02/14/updated-dell-warranty-information-script/)

I remarked out all the wscript.echo in my actual script that I have run.

This prevents the series of pop ups.

When I run this local (from desktop or network source) it works perfect.

I get a series of registry keys under HKLM\Software\DellWarrantyInfo that provide me all the warranty info I'm looking for.

When I deploy this to targets as a "Windows Script Host" it doesn't seem to run.

I have tried without the remarked out lines and with full UI. I get prompted to Deploy, but nothing runs.

log..jpg

We will build this into our future templates for imaging, but I'd really like to get this info into the registry for existing machines.

Any help you can provide, I'd be greatful.

Thanks!

-Derek

LANDesk 9.6 SP1 Core High Memory usage for Global Scheduler Application

I have just created a distribution app for Autoroute 2010 and scheduled a task. Whenever I run this task the "LANDesk Global Scheduler application" starts to use a crazy amount of memory 4-5gb. If I end the SDCLIENT task on the device all is OK?

Weirdly on first created schedule task it ran but downloaded a complete random package and failed. I deleted the scheduled task and recreated and now its running but still eating up memory.

The download is 1.8GB and currently at 1.7GB so will see what happens when this specific task finishes but wondering if anyone has seen anything similar?

Hi,

I am trying to push office 2007/2010 by following the attached document, everything works fine, LDMS server is pushing the office setup to the client PC without an issue also setup.exe also getting started but at the back end nothing is happening, is there is something I am missing, kindly highlight the same.

While going through some of the KB I understand there is .bat file needs to be created, can someone share that file along with steps, this will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Sayed

Need help with LD error code (16386)

$

Greetings,

I have set up ACDSee for deployment but the push job goes to Failed even when the installation is successful.

The ACDSee msi does actually prompt for a reboot after installation but this is halted due to LD using REBOOT=ReallySuppress.

In earlier distributions I have bypassed the 'Failed' status creating a batch script which returns Code 0 instead

of 3010 (ERROR_SUCCESS_REBOOT_ REQUIRED).

However in this case I can't find any msi return code which is related to a reboot required,

would have been great if anyone could have a look at the LD log and clarify why LD returns a Failed status in this case:

Note that in this case ACDSee is successfully installed and the machine is not rebooted,

ACDSee works as it should:

Custom Column Set for Scheduled Task

$

I want to create a custom column set for our scheduled tasks, right now the information that we can see is the standard scheduled task information. Such as result, state, message and etc. I want to keep all that information but want to add computer description so I know who's computer it is. I created a custom column set, dragged that custom column to a schedule task and it changed the schedule task to match my custom column set. But the issue is, only the device name and computer description is showing up. I have attached a image of the problem, I don't see any information related to the task now. I hope i'm just doing something wrong because if not a custom column set for a scheduled task is worthless.

Column Set Configuration

Good morning does anyone know if it's possible to apply a custom column set configuration to the "scheduled tasks" window under software disctribution. I currently have the defaults, Name, IP Address, Status, Result, Return Code, Hostname, LDAP.

I would like to know if I have an option to customize this to get more information in this window. Thanks in advance.

How to Put key (XXXXX:XXXXX:XXXXX) in Adobe CS5 package...

Hi All,

Please let me know the process to put key in Adobe CS5 distribution package...

.bat file return code 16386 - failed. But it's working

$

0

Here's the code:

REM If pnamain.exe is running, kill it

tasklist.exe | find /I "pnamain.exe">NUL
sdclient.exe /msg="Line 1 completed ErrorLevel %ERRORLEVEL%"
if "%ERRORLEVEL%" == "0" taskkill /F /IM pnamain.exe
sdclient.exe /msg="Line 2 completed ErrorLevel %ERRORLEVEL%"

exit 0

I added the sdclient messages to figure out where I was having problems. I've confirmed that the code is working, and I'm getting a "Line 2 completed ErrorLevel 0" message in the console. pnamain.exe is also getting killed off.

For whatever reason it is returning 16386 Failed to install package.

I would have thought the exit 0 line would have caused it to exit successfully not matter what. If pnamain.exe wasn't running at the time the bat file ran, I thought whatever the ERRORLEVEL was would be the status of the scheduled task. Apparently not.

Can anyone lend some insight into this?

Thanks

Cannot install packages after a failed deployment

Hi All,

I'm new to the LanDesk tool. I have been trying to resolve package deployment failures but no luck.

We deployed VC++ Runtime 2010 on a test pc where it already has the higher version of VC++ (2012) installed on it and hence the deployment failed.

After this, i tried to deploy other packages like Adobe, Office but the installation never gets triggered on the client PC. When i check the scheduled task for these packages, it shows the status as "Active", Result : "client has initiated asynchronous policy execution" and the Return Code "1354".

The last few lines of the sdclient.log file has these entries:

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 09:53:58 PostInstallInventoryScan: Successfully created inventory scanner task.

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 09:53:58 Sending task status, cmd line -coreandip=coreserver -taskid=198 -retcode=-1918091262 -complete "-log=C:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\LDClient\data\sdclient_task198.log" -pkgid=177

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 12:22:09

RunAppMain: command Line :

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 12:22:09

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 12:22:09 Task is not required to send status

Can anyone able to provide any advice on what can be done to overcome this issue?

Thanks,

Gopal

Global settings Reboot

Hi,

My agent is configured with the Global setting " Never reboot" ticked.

I configured a .msi package to push IE11 to workstations.

The install/uninstall options parameters are  /i /qf    (same with extra /norestart)

After the software installs, the machine reboots.

One thing though is that the InstallExecuteSequence table of the .msi contains a ScheduleReboot Action.

I though that with the Global setting " Never reboot" ticked the machine will never reboot no matter what.

Any input is welcome?

Source for hidedos.exe

Trying to get a source for hidedos.exe, i've seen it attached in several threads on here, but the file doesn't appear to exist any longer. Googling isn't turning up either, just a bunch of references to it, but no actual downloads. At least not from any sites that our proxy likes. Can someone attach it or point me to the author's page?

Trying to push a desktop icon to all users

Hello All,

This is probably a really simple question although I am not that knowledgeable on scripting nor pushing batch files through LANDesk, but we are trying to put a web icon on all of our employee desktops. I am sure there may be a better way to do this, if so please let me know but here is how I did it.

I created a batch script:

xcopy "\\servername\Network Support\Software\Point 11 Browser\Point 11.Ink" c:\users\public\desktop

and then created my batch script distribution package pointing to the folder the batch script is in and then creating the scheduled task. I drag my computer in for testing and it fails with error code 4.

This is the log I get when the job fails:
