Installation fails with error "One or more of the dependent files could not be found." 16418

I'm trying to put together a MSI distribution package for ApplicationXtender Desktop 6.5 with retrieval only option.  It is a MSI install, and I have the command line as:

/i /quiet ADDLOCAL=DocumentManager /norestart

The installation files are stored on network storage.  I have double checked the path and it matches what I have set up in LANDESK.  I added the whole ApplicationXtender Desktop installation directory into "Additional files," minus the MSI itself.  Scheduled the task and ran it, but keep getting this error:

"One or more of the depend files could not be found."

Error code 16418.

I have tried resetting the package hash, and also tried starting over by deleting and re-creating the distribution package, but nothing seems to work.  What am I missing here?

Override Application with new Software Distribution Task

LDMS SP2

I have created a task to pre-cache a specific application.

The tasks runs fine and the file is in the pre-cache folder.

Then I get a new file that has the same name as the previous one, replace the old app with the new one in my Software Distribution Folder and run the task again.

Shouldn't my app be updated with the new file? I have reset the hash and rerun but still the task completes, but the file in the client is never updated.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards.

I am trying to run a install and it is failing with a result of Unspecified Error.  I have attached the task logs from both the computer and the server.  We are currently running LDMS 9.0 SP1.

Thanks,

We pushed out a .exe file and it was supposed to have been silent, but we found out the clients were having to go through the GUI install window. So we deleted that task in the console and created one using a .msi. That seems to be working fine for those clients which somehow didn't get the .exe task sent to them. However, those that did are not letting the .msi file run due to the error in the subject line. We thought that the install was somehow stuck running as a background process and a reboot would fix that, but it has not.

How do we clean up the references to the .exe task so that the .msi task can complete successfully?

Portal Manager How to

I am looking to leverage the portal manager in my organization on Landesk 9.5 sp1 to empower users to install approved software packages on their own to reduce demand on the Helpdesk.

The image will help give an understanding.

You can see that I am using the left most menu for applications. I am looking for a better way to organize as ultimately I suspect there will be 10-15 applications here.

Second, I have not been able to determine what the center pane under name, type, description etc. is for.

Can someone give me an example of how this portal could leveraged? I picturing major headings on the left under launch pad like Office Apps, Backup Ups etc that would populate a selection to the center screen for choices. Does this make sense?

Ultimately I am in need of some resources and insight into how to use this part of Landesk and what it can truly do.

Thanks in advance,

James

Targeting devices using an imported list -Software Distribution targets

We have about 50 or 60 ID's we want to target... in this case, by placing them in a query. Trouble is, they are in a txt file and I don't want to type 60 user id's, I'd rather IMPORT them.

This is all I found on doing what I want to do.. this author has some sort of an xls template & xml file that I can use.. trouble is, it wasn't attached in the FORUM / COMMUNITY article I read and I can't seem to find it w/ my search skills

Selecting large amount of computers quickly - Nov 21, 2007 LDSupport       http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-1868...

I'm sure some admin out there does this routinely and can guide me to the right import method or the above xls/xml templates.

Thanks in advance for your time

Office 365 Deployment

Has anyone had any success pushing the click to run Office 365 installation to users in there domain. I am having an issue with push. I have downloaded the ODT(office deployment tool) and the click to run Office 365 sources. I have created a bat file to run the setup.exe and configured my configuration.xml file but it will not run in LanDesk.

If you have any tips or example scripts for pushing this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Office 2013 Click 2 Run Deployment Challenge

$

I was recently tasked with deploying Lync2013 and OneDrive together as one single package for users that are not what is called an "E3".  An "E3" License allows a user to use the full Office 2013 on up to 5 machines with their e-mail address associated with their "E3" account.

The difficulty in doing this was to determine who currently has Office 365 installed, who has OneDrive installed and who has Lync 2013 installed (All Click 2 Run Technology).  I decided to write a VBScript to run to first check for the particular files, Lync.exe, Groove.exe (OneDrive), and Excel.exe.  If i find that Excel.exe in present, then I can assume that the entire Office 365 is installed, if Lync.exe is installed and neither of the other two are present then only Lync 2013 is installed.  See the logic?  While this may not be the best approach, it works very well for my environment.  I have this particular deployment as a self service installation in the Portal Manager.  If the user decides to run this, they will be prompted according to what is installed on their machine.

  1. If Office 365 ProPlus with all apps is installed, then show a message box indicating such and end the script.
  2. If Lync 2013 is installed, then install only OnDrive
  3. If only OnDrive is installed, then install only Lync 2013
  4. If Lync 2013, OneDrive, or Office 365 is not installed, then installed Lync 2013 and OneDrive

We needed this for users that are not an "E3" so they will be able to use Lync 2013 and OneDrive, but not the full Office 2013 (Word, Excel, and other apps).

If anyone is interested in the script, please send me an e-mail through this site and I will gladly provide it.

Issue with scheduled task and query

Running 9.6 SP2.

I'm having an issue with a scheduled task that I had set to run on a targeted query. I can run the query and it shows the workstations I'm looking for just fine. It also shows up correctly under the task properties in the Target devices>Targeted Queries.

When I run the task, it does not appear to resolve the query and the task is never ran on the workstations. Checking the SchedQry.exe.log file I see this error:

ResolveTasks: Error, console user for task: [214] does not exist, restart task with a new user

Any idea what would cause that and how to fix this?

Thanks,

In our environment there several hundred systems, all of which have multiple versions of Java (JRE) installed. Is there a way can go about uninstalling multiple versions of Java (JRE), then installing the latest version of Java (JRE) all in the same script. Please let me know if this is possible, or if you have any suggestions or scripts available.

Thanks so much

Batch Deployment using Local System Account

I'm having trouble fully deploying a piece of software.  The software installs fine but due to the software being installed using the Local System Account as the option in the Software Distribution package it doesnt add the software to the start menu.  I thought turning the software into a batch file package i could add the xcopy command and manually copy over the folder/shortcut but this is not working. If i run the bat locally it works or if i switch the Accounts to Current User's account that works also (user is an admin)  We are removing admin access to all users so this method wont work moving forward.

Has anyone run into this issue?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here's what i currently have in my batch:

msiexec /i G2MSetup5.8.1189_IT.msi TRANSFORMS="G2M.mst" G2MRUNATLOGON=true ALLUSERS=1 /qn

::W7 profile::

copy GoToMeeting.lnk "%USERPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\" /Y

Software Distribution via Gateway; Issues when proxy is configured

$

Bare with me, because I've never tried this before...

I am trying to deploy a simple application/installer via a BATCH package using a Policy (Required Installation) distribution method.  However my clients aren't running the policy/application, and the Core is reporting that the client has failed to download the files.

A little infromation about my environment.

We have a Group Policy that specifies a proxy for Internet Explorer while at the office, and prevents the user from changing it.  The proxy is a web filtering proxy (virus, adult material, etc).

7-11-2011 10-19-34 PM.jpg

Because this is locked down, when the user is out of the office (home, etc) it's still set, however traffic is "supposed" to bypass it after a short period of time since it's not available.  And it does.

Now, I'd like to start deploying software via the Gateway, but when I force the policy check-in the machine will not obtain the policy.

Basic trouble shooting showed that when the client checks in for policies it shows the following error in the policy.sync.log file.

Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:55 [START] Policy synchronization stated.
Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:55 Sending update request to core server.
Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:55 Web request returned 24 unexpected http status.
Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:55 [STOP] Error: policy update request has failed.

I opened BrokerConfig and ran a test, and it shows the following.  Mind you this is while the proxy settings are still enabled.

7-11-2011 10-21-50 PM.jpg

Now... if I disable/remove the proxy settings and run the BrokerConfig test, this is what I get.

7-11-2011 10-25-48 PM.jpg

This tells me that the client is now checking in via the Management Gateway.  The policy.sync.log file confirms that with the following information.

Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:12 [START] Policy synchronization stated.
Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:12 Sending update request to core server.
Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:15 Web request returned 0 The web request was successful.

Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:25 Web request returned 0 The web request was successful.
Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:26 Processing new and updated remote operations
Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:26 Processing deleted remote operations
Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:26 Policy request has been processed.
Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:26 Checking for rescheduled policies
Mon, 11 Jul 2011 22:40:26 [STOP] Policy Synchronization application complete.

Even with these changes the policy doesn't download the files to the client.

Now, what I don't understand is why the policy doesn't download the files, regardless of the proxy setting.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Receiving error "Sdclient.exe or the installation program was terminated at the client" when trying to deploy executable package

Running LANDesk Management Suite 9 with Service Pack 2. I'm attempting to install an executable package on a Windows 7 machine. When I try, the console shows a status of "Failed" and the error message "Sdclient.exe or the installation program was terminated at the client. Return code 1." I have never encountered this error before, and all of my other software packages have installed successfully in the past. To be sure, I also deployed a test package that ran successfully.

All LANDesk services are running under the local system account. The log file shows that all of the required files were downloaded to the client, and there are no indications of errors. Here is the last block of text from the log:

Hi

I have written a simple vbscript to update a registry setting. If I run it on the pc it executes no problem. When I try and schedule it, I get a return code  2, The system could not find the specified file.

Here is the script (Written for 64 bit Windows 7, execution Environment has also been set for 64 bit):

Dim WshShell

Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.shell")

WshShell.RegWrite "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\EnableLUA", "0", "REG_DWORD"

The scheduled task handler log entry contains

I'm not sure what the Raxfer erroe is and why Im getting it. Any pointers/suggestions.

Hi Good Morning,

I'm having a problem using the delivery method "Multicast". It is successfull in pushing the package on the unit, on smdcache. but there was no installtion.

Does "Multicast method", only push the package? and no installation??

We are using landesk 8.8 and trying to push SAP patches. But we are currently testing Winrar with Multicast Method.

Thanks,

Patch Management - Agent & Reboot Settings

$

Since we are a large organization, we have one core server specifically used for Servers.  We are moving to LANDesk Management Suite 9.6 SP2 and would like to ensure we have the right settings.

Since the clients are servers, the priority is reducing downtime.  Nothing is Autofix, and all reboots are scheduled. There are currently no prompts, no deferment, no countdowns, etc.

We would like two patching options controlled through “Scheduled Tasks”.

  1. Scan against the Compliance group, Stage/repair detected vulnerabilities, and wait for a scheduled reboot task.  Nothing after the reboot.
  2. Scan against the Compliance group, Stage/repair, immediately reboot.  Repeat until completely compliant.  Once compliant, revert back to normal agent settings.

With the new changes in 9.6 we are worried about getting all the right settings.

Thanks in advance.

The Remote System Refused the Network Connection

We have a remote site that is connected to the main corporate network via VPN.  I am trying to run a scheduled task to run security patches on those machines.  When I do this, I get the error message stated above.

I have browsed a few articles here and they all state that there is normally an issue with the cert .0 file.  I have replaced this file C:\Program Files\LANDesk\Shared Files\cbaroot\certs\########.0 with the one on the core at C:\Program Files\LANDesk\Shared Files\keys\########.0

After I replaced that file, I restarted all the LDMS services on the remote PC.  I tried to run the patches again and got the same error.

Is there something that I am doing wrong?  Do I need to reinstall the agent?  It seems that I can not push to any of those remote machines.  Is it possibly a network issue with the way the VPN is connecting?

Any help would be appreciated as I need to ensure that these machines are getting patches.

Wake on Lan - Multiple computers at a time

Hi there, we're using MarXtar to wake individual computers up at a time by right clicking them.  It works great.  Is there a way to wake multiple computers at al time instead of just one at a time?  When you highlight multiple computers and right click and select MarXtar it seems to only bring up the first computer from the list of highlighted ones...  It would be great if you could wake multiple computers, or even better to wake a folder up...  This could easily be done in SCCM, it would be nice to see it with Landesk as well (maybe it can be done, already, and I'm just not doing it right)..
