Run Script or distribution package as other user

From my understanding, when running a distribution package I can run the package as the "LocalSystem" account or the Current user's account.  Scripts are executed as the "LocalSystem" account.  The msi I need to install doesn't like using the the "LocalSystem" account for some reason and cannot figure out why.  I also can not use the Current user's account because our user's do not have the rights to do installs.  I would like to run either a distribution package or script as one of our domain admins accounts.  I'm able to use a distribution package or a script.  I need to know how to get either of them to run as a domain admin account that I will specify.  Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks.

Issue with scheduled task and query

Running 9.6 SP2.

I'm having an issue with a scheduled task that I had set to run on a targeted query. I can run the query and it shows the workstations I'm looking for just fine. It also shows up correctly under the task properties in the Target devices>Targeted Queries.

When I run the task, it does not appear to resolve the query and the task is never ran on the workstations. Checking the SchedQry.exe.log file I see this error:

ResolveTasks: Error, console user for task: [214] does not exist, restart task with a new user

Any idea what would cause that and how to fix this?

Thanks,

Andrew

Is anyone having issues with software distribution with OS X devices?

I schedule the task and after it goes to downloading it immediately fails. I can go directly to the file path and it will download the file with no problem but for some reason when it tries to download from Fuse it always fails. Also if I delete the task for some reason it still appears in Fuse for that device.

Keep trying to distribute package to failed devices

Hi all

I need your help here

So I got this scenario where I like to distribute a package to let's say 1000 clients.

A lot of them fails for several reasons, but mostly because the clients are turned off - "Cannot Find Agent"

This is fine, as long as the package keeps trying to install until the device is successful.

So I have been talking to LANDESK support and they tell me to use the schedule task option:

schedule task.JPG

Now here I would choose "start now" for the package to start right away.

Then I mark the "Repeat every: Hour" - and choose to schedule these devices for "Devices that did not succeed".

According to the LANDESK support, I now have a package that will install right away, and for those who fails, it will keep trying every hour.

My problem is that it is simply not happening. I have failed devices that keep being failed, even though I turn on 4 PC's that have failed, and they have been turned on for days without the package tryed to install, which it should every hour :S

I have also tryed to go into the schedule task option again to check that everything is as it should be, but here i see the "repeat every:" mark is gone, and the start time is now set to "leave unscheduled".

It's like the options I have set doesn't save? But some of the failed devices IS getting a retry now and then as I can see that I get some new successful devices in now and then.

Am I doing something wrong here? Maybe in the wrong order?

Any suggestion would be appreciated thank you.

Creating a distribution package using a .msp?

Hello, I have a .msp file that I need to push to my computers. I know LANDesk does not have a .msp distribution package so does anyone have any suggestions or know of a solution? Thank you.

16422 Failed to download all additional files for a package

I'm a bit of a newbie to LANDesk, and I'm having dificulty with deploying a software package.

I have a distribution package that I have created that when I run the scheduled task to deploy it fails with the following code:

16422 Failed to download all additional files for a package

I am attempting to have the client download using http. I have confirmed that I can enter the location of the files and download at least the msi via browser (in fact, I can browse the files in the structure with no problem. And I have another executable package that I can distribute via http with no issues to the same test machine).

The installation fails pretty quickly, probably within 60 seconds and I cannot find a log file that describes any kind of issue as to why. This software package has a LARGE number of additional files that are needed for the installation (in the order of ~1700 files), I don't know if that plays into it or anything?

Can someone point me to where I can get more information regarding why it's failing and what I can do about it?

Thanks in advance.

Distribution package fails to download

We are unable to send out this package to a test system, any thoughts?  We are running LDMS 9.5 SP2.  It does connect, download one of the packages and starts download the other, I can see an '@@partial@@_' being created, its size grows, but after about a minute, the task fails and the partial downloaded file is left in the sdmcache folder on the client.

Here is the sdclient_task.log excerpt form the client,

After the installation of a Powershell package the powershell execution policy is set to Restricted

Hi everyone,

We encountered a problem while using Powershell Packages.

We set all our computers with an executionpolicy to Unrestricted.

Nonetheless when we use Landesk to execute a powershell script through a Powershell Package at the end of it the execution policy is set back to Restricted.

Our computers are Windows 7 SP1 x64 enterpise Edition and we are using Landesk 9.5 SP1

Does anyone encountered this issue? Do you know is Landesk SP2 or SP3 might fix this?

Best regards,

Charles.

Powershell software distribution method not working

Hi has anyone succesfully sent a ps1 file to a machine and have it execute and work?

I can send a powershell script and it says done success but no change on the machine.

I have seen a post where a user uses LOCEXEC but surely that defeats the object - you want to be able to choose your ps1 files as the console allows.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Office 2013 Click 2 Run Deployment Challenge

$

I was recently tasked with deploying Lync2013 and OneDrive together as one single package for users that are not what is called an "E3".  An "E3" License allows a user to use the full Office 2013 on up to 5 machines with their e-mail address associated with their "E3" account.

The difficulty in doing this was to determine who currently has Office 365 installed, who has OneDrive installed and who has Lync 2013 installed (All Click 2 Run Technology).  I decided to write a VBScript to run to first check for the particular files, Lync.exe, Groove.exe (OneDrive), and Excel.exe.  If i find that Excel.exe in present, then I can assume that the entire Office 365 is installed, if Lync.exe is installed and neither of the other two are present then only Lync 2013 is installed.  See the logic?  While this may not be the best approach, it works very well for my environment.  I have this particular deployment as a self service installation in the Portal Manager.  If the user decides to run this, they will be prompted according to what is installed on their machine.

  1. If Office 365 ProPlus with all apps is installed, then show a message box indicating such and end the script.
  2. If Lync 2013 is installed, then install only OnDrive
  3. If only OnDrive is installed, then install only Lync 2013
  4. If Lync 2013, OneDrive, or Office 365 is not installed, then installed Lync 2013 and OneDrive

We needed this for users that are not an "E3" so they will be able to use Lync 2013 and OneDrive, but not the full Office 2013 (Word, Excel, and other apps).

If anyone is interested in the script, please send me an e-mail through this site and I will gladly provide it.

How to build a Cisco AnyConnect mobility client distribution package with built in profile

Anyone create a a Cisco Anyconnect distribution package when complete has the built in hostname and AD child domain ?

It is pretty straight forward to create a .exe that can be distributed but this lacks hostname to connect to and the AD domain the account uses.

When you create the Cisco Anyconnect .exe using the Web portal a exe file is created but also a Cisco folder is copied to

%LOCALAPPDATA% C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local . This holds information relating to the host to connect to and the AD domain. Is it possible using Landesk to copy a folder in a share to a user environment variable path like %LOCALAPPDAT% ?

Windows 7 and RunAs (the sequel)

$

I recently started a discussion about the same topic but incorrectly marked it as 'answered'

http://community.landesk.com/support/message/46029#46029

Here's the original question:

I have some packages that don't want to install as local system (AutoCAD and our GIS software for example). Up till now i used AutoIT and used the runas command to install them silently. Now we are planning to migrate to windows 7 and UAC prevents the runas command to work. Does anyone know a way to work around this issue?

Here's the result of some testing:

The AutoIt script I deploy now looks like this:

(it's just an example i'm using to test this stuff. I open notepad with elevated permissions, and it requires elevated permissions to close it)

#requireadmin
runas("user", "domain", "password", @comspec & " /c " & "taskkill /im notepad.exe", @scriptdir, @sw_hide)

When i try this, the user won't get a pop-up but notepad won't close. If i try the following, notepad will close but the user gets prompted for permission.

Script 1:

#requireadmin
runas("user", "domain", "password", "script2.exe", @scriptdir, @sw_hide)

Script 2:
#requireadmin
run(@comspec & " /c " & "taskkill /im notepad.exe",@scriptdir, @sw_hide)

Anyone have another suggestion?

How to package Adobe Reader, Acrobat, and Flash plugin

$
0
0

I'm sure everyone on here has to have adobe packages, and we may have all different ways to make them.  I've had to write a quick procedure so anyone in my office can update the package when a new version comes out.  I thought I would post this for other to use.  If you think it's usefull, let me know and I'll post more as I do them, and maybe other will post theirs.  (I'm thinking of making up a template to fill in)... I would be great to have a library of these type of directions..

Erik

D.F. Tehnologies Ltd.

How to package adobe flash and Acrobat reader (Acrobat writer is same directions as reader)

1.       Sign up for ‘official rights’ at (takes minutes):

a.       http://www.adobe.com/products/players/fpsh_distribution1.html

2.       DL the adobe reader and flash (active X) from the links provided in email from adobe

a.      For flash DL the MSI

b.      For reader you have to DL an exe

3.       DL the adobe customizer wizard (for acrobat)

a.       http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3993

b.      Install software and copy reader.exe file to the local machine (Use c:\temp for easy typing)

4.       Unpack the reader.exe file

a.       Open dos window

b.      Cd c:\temp (or where ever you put the file)

c.       adbeRdrXXXXX.exe -nos_o"reader9" -nos_ne

d.      you should now have c:\temp\reader9 with all the install files

5.       Use customizer to open the MSI from above

a.       Set your options and press save

6.       You can test your reader install manually with the command:

a.       msiexec.exe /i AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS=acroRead.mst /qn

7.       Create new distribution packages (MSI) for flash

a.       Just pick the MSI you DL’d earlier

8.       Create new distribution package (MSI) for reader

a.       Pick AcroRead.msi as the main MSI

b.      Add extra file acroread.mst

                                                               i.      NOTE: MST files may not pass your IIS server if using HTTP - add as a mine type

c.       Add extra file data1.cab

d.      Add ‘TRANSFORMS=acroRead.mst’ after the options on the command line

9.     Schedule the template and run

10.   Run a patch run after to update Reader to the latest version (if you have security suite)

I have created a brand distribution job and task, I pushed it to a 1000 machines. I have a large number of machines that come back with error 16395 (The package is already installed), This is the first time this package has ran on any of these computers and the strange thing is that all the computers that have error 16395 did run the task and it was successful. Has anyone else seen this behavior and if so how do I make sure it doesn't happen again. We are seeing this a lot since we to 9.6 sp1.

Running LANDesk Management Suite 9 with Service Pack 2. I'm attempting to install an executable package on a Windows 7 machine. When I try, the console shows a status of "Failed" and the error message "Sdclient.exe or the installation program was terminated at the client. Return code 1."
