I was asked to apply some branding to the Landesk deferral windows (shown above).  Is there a way to change the image shown in the window above?  If so, how and what are the image requirements?

the machine failed the prerequisite query

We are running Management Suite 9.50.2.6 and intermittently get a intermittent error of "the machine failed the prerequisite query" on policy supported push software deployments. These deployments do not have prerequisites. If we wait long enough most will eventually successfully run. I've been trying to identify a cause but as of yet have not been able to. I have run both security and inventory scans as well as rebooted and deleted the local workstation DB. Nothing has consistently resolved the issue. I've not been able to recreate at will. There is no task log created when this error is seen. Any suggestions about a cause or how to troubleshoot would be appreciated.

Exploring vPro

I have spend the past year and a half working to get vPro to function correctly here on the enterprise. vPro (if working correctly) provides your LANDesk installation with some very significant tools. The ability to turn systems on and off in order to deploy software or patch at night is very nice. The ability to remote into a system (via KVM) and run an anti-virus rescue CDROM  from your local system to the remote "victim" is a tasty little treat also. Certainly everyone can see the benefit of using vPro with LANDesk.

   HOWEVER...

Intel vPro is one of those tools which is at the mercey of a little thing I like to call "fellowship"; that is to say, while Intel has defined the various versions and what they can do the OEMs have the capacity to stray from the true form if they sell boxes which do not meet the higher requirements. One example is how all systems which have the i5 and i7 cores can be "full vPro" systems (they have Intel chipset, video and NIC) so all of the features within vPro will work on them. If a system is sold with i3 core then the OEM may not provide any more than a few "AMT" solutions. THis may not be a big thing at first glance, but vPro tends to gravitate to the old "weakest link" concept wherein you really want all vPro equipped devices to have the same level of support or it becomes increasingly difficult to figure out what is happening and how to get it working with the systems you support.

Truly, I found this trek to be like a climb up the mountain to meet the wise philosopher. For every person that I spoke to about setting this up I found 4 or 5 others which said they had already spilled enough blood trying to make this work. All any of these poor souls could say was something akin to, "If you ever make it to Nirvana, please send a bus to pick us up..."

Back to the "fellowship" point. It seems that Intel, in providing this free to OEMs is not getting the support from vendors which would propel this potentially valuable solution to the place where it needs to be. Couple that with the OEMs not communicating all that is required to LANDesk support and then working to ensure that LANDesk can function with the fewest of steps to make vPro viable... well you get the idea. It appears that since there is no money in it for anyone then the solution is waiting for some Don Quixote, or some Joebaggadonuts to volunteer to collect all of the information from the various resources about the country and make this thing work.

Well, we have it working... In test and provisionally in production. I want to further compile my findings and get a real person to translate them from 1337 speak to Geek speak to English so we in the community can compare notes. I am convinced that once the data is looked upon by others we can put a guide together which will allow newcomers and those waitin on the Nirvana bus a means to get their vPro experience working.

Of late I had the blessing to attend a class that Intel hosted locally demonstrating their SCS (Setup Configuration Software) which they use to provision and unprovision vpro devices over the LAN/WAN. This solution is well documented (especially compared to what you usually get from vPro sources) and well conceived. It was easy to setup and used very little resources. The instructor, William York, was very knowledgeable and didn't look things up rather recalled them from memory on a time when he had resolved the question for himself. All in all very impressive as an option. I am hopng to take this solution and use it to address provisioning and changes to provisioning from this solution and then use LANDesk to reap the rewards of a fully configured vPro environment. More on this later - I only have this working on the test servers at this point. If this all works out we, in the community, may be able to make the titans dance with one another.

   One can dream, I suppose.

Need help with LD error code (16386)

$

Greetings,

I have set up ACDSee for deployment but the push job goes to Failed even when the installation is successful.

The ACDSee msi does actually prompt for a reboot after installation but this is halted due to LD using REBOOT=ReallySuppress.

In earlier distributions I have bypassed the 'Failed' status creating a batch script which returns Code 0 instead

of 3010 (ERROR_SUCCESS_REBOOT_ REQUIRED).

However in this case I can't find any msi return code which is related to a reboot required,

would have been great if anyone could have a look at the LD log and clarify why LD returns a Failed status in this case:

Note that in this case ACDSee is successfully installed and the machine is not rebooted,

ACDSee works as it should:

Setup.exe failing with Installshield switches

$

I am trying to push a package based on InstallShield that uses a setup.iss response file.

I create a distribution package based on  \\servername\path\setup.exe with the following switches on the Install/Uninstall options screen:

/s /f1"\\servername\path\setup.iss"  (quotes are required)

This fails with and "Unknown Error Code".  If I remove the switches the setup.exe runs but it requires user input.

I've even tried creating a batch file and using a batch file distribution package but it still fails.  Saying that sdclient.exe or the program was terminated at the client.

Nothing remotely helpful in the logs in either case.

However if I run the batch file directly it completes using the setup.iss file.

Does LANDesk support InstallShield switches?  I need to push this to several hundred devices and so far have not had luck with one.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Do streamed documents in Portal utilize preferred servers?

We would like to stream some videos at remote locations. Trying to figure out if the videos can be replicated to preferred servers so the remote sites are not pulling from source each time a video is streamed.

The package was deployed by another policy. What can I do?

$

I am deploying a Package (Batch) that shows on some System (Done 0) and others (Done 16385).

All Systems with Code 16385 dont have the Batch Package installed, instead the Logfile shows

that the package was deployed by another policy.

Ok, I know that I maybe started another Task before, but I canceled the Task and deleted it, before I made

a new Task, but I stopped that task, also because I noticed 16385 on some systems and no install.

Anyone has an Idea what is going wrong and where can I look or better delete the other Policy?

At the moment I can't found another task with that package.

I am currently deploying Office 2010 via UNC admin share and settting the deployment method to "run at source"

I read some other posts that suggest for multiple files to create a SFX and deploy.

Just wondering what steps others are using to deploy via this method.

Using Desktop Manager to conduct a survey/Poll?

$

0

Just curious if anyone has any guidance on setting something like this up.

What I envision:

I create some question that comes up in the form of a pop up to the end user. The question has maybe 3 answers. Such as, Yes. No. Maybe.

The pop up simply asks them, "Your LANDesk administrator would like to ask if you would like to take a survey" "If you would, click here, if not simply cancel".

and If they click yes, then they are presented with the survey question, with radio buttons to click, yes, no, or maybe. And perhaps, a field to add short comments.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, err LDMS console, the poll is tracked and displaying a nice pie chart or the like.

Does this sound feasible?

thanks,

Application deployment incomplete via Software Deployment Portal

I have an application that I created. I tested it using a standard policy-supported push method, and everything seemed to work perfectly. However I want the application to be available via the software deploument portal instead so users can install if only if they want to have access to this application. When I deploy it through the software deployment portal, the application seems to install incorrectly in that there is no desktop icon, no start menu icons and an icon being installed via MST into the startup folder is not placed. These icons are all correctly placed if the application is run as a policy-supported push though.

What gives?

Tryingn to setup content replication between our core server and file servers at remote locations.  When we start replication it starts to run and then fails with an ID of 1716 'the system cannot find the file specified'.  The preffered server is already setup and both the read and write tests succeed.  The share and the permissions are correct on the preferred server to allow content to be replicated.  I'm not sure what we are missing at this point.  Core is running 9.0 SP3. I did some searches on the site and found this same error message but nothing relating to content replication.

Problem distributing a vbscript to Windows 7

Hi

I have a script which modifies the registry and creates a shortcut for an application. It runs well under xp and if I download it to a Windows 7 box and run it there it works perfectly. However, when I try to schedule it as a task to distribute it , it fails. It fails on a package deployment error 255. Here is an example of the log and script:

Hi

We have just downloaded the LANDESK 9.50 on a server. It is still running in trial mode. Im trying to test Distribution packages.

Im distributing a msi package. The destination has the new agent and it appears to be working fine. When I run the task it fails on a return code 105.

Here  is an extract of what I see in the "view log file" option.

Content Replication Error

I'm running LANDesk 9.5 and trying to set up Content Replication.

I set up 2 Windows 7 VMs, create identical shares on both, copied some data to the first one and configured the Content Replication. I used the first VM as both the Replicatior and the Source.

When I run the job, it runs for a minute or so, then returns "The extended attributes are inconsistent".

Does anyone know what this means?

I have no problem copying the data from one VM to the other using Windows Explorer or Robocopy.

Thanks.

How can i configure a Package to install only if a condition (RegKey/File exists) is fulfilled?

Hello

Our customer has a little Problem. He wants to configure a software-package that is only installed if a condition(s) is fulfilled.

Example:

An application should only be installed if serveral conditions are fulfilled like: a RegKey AND a File exists...

I have tried to do this with  the "Detection" and "Dependent Packages" configured in "Software distribuition" but it won't work on my installation.

Is there a possibility to configure a software-package to handle this? or do we have to go another way for a solution (osd-templates)?

thanks a lot for helping us
