Policy feedback on LD9

Hi, I'm testing an LD 9 core right now (also with Patch Manager, but that's a side issue to this, really). The vast majority of my machines are behind a Management Gateway and are firewalled, which means that push deployments often are not an option. I use policies and policy supported pushes all the time. Under 8.8 SP3, the feedback I got from policies was decent--sometimes machines wouldn't leave the active state, or wouldn't ever sync a policy down, but for the most part it worked. Under LD9, it's much worse.

5 days ago, I created a policy to install Silverlight on my test group of 27 computers. I know that it was not installed on any of those computers before now. On 5 of the machines, LD9 reported that the installation failed, and gave me a return code of 1514 or 1512 (these return codes don't seem to correspond to anything I've been able to find online). 18 reported "The action completed successfully" with a return code of 0. Good. 2 reported "Successfully completed installation of package" with a return code of 16385 (!). 2 merely say "Policy has been made available" with a return code of 1001.

However, 22 are listed as active, 5 are listed as failed. I've cancelled the running of the scheduled task, and they're still sitting there like that. Wha?

Further, if I run a query on silverlight, all 27 show as having it installed.

Using policies with Patch Manager is even worse. I did a test run yesterday, and I have 1 pending, 4 successful (saying "The client does not support batch file packages"), and 22 failed.

On other tests, I've seen the local policy.sync.log reporting no packages available for multiple checks, while on the core, there's a package, sitting there pending, which clearly has never been run on the client computer.

This is all very frustrating to me. Anyone else seeing this sort of issue, or is my core just special again?

Deploying Office 2010 on LDMS 9.0SP2 is very slow

Hello,

I'm very new in this community, but my company started to use landesk just in August and now I'm in charge of create some packeges for provisioning.

I'm making some tests and according to this discussion http://community.landesk.com/support/thread/11924 I have created the package, tested it locally, created the task (for test i used a push delivery method with full bandwidth and use download file from source). I also tried all others

After that, i used a pc with a fresh windows 7 installation and stated the task. Looking on the task manger of that pc i saw that the network usage was very low (in the order of KB and not MB).

I just want to know if someone had the same problem and has a solution to it.

Sorry if i didn't give all the information, if not just ask me

Thank you in advance

snooze = install now?

hi,

I was trying to run a batch file to install some software on the clients using distribution packages. I want to prompt user before install, and allow user to delay. The prompt shows when I run policy.sync.exe as I was testing and wanted to be quick for the test process. The problem is, I tried every delivery method, including the "user-controlled installation" delivery method with "allow user to delay" and "prompt before install" options, when the prompt shows, no matter I choose to snooze or to deploy now, the icon at system tray comes out saying installing software and batch starts right away. WHY??? Is there anything I've done wrong?

We are using management suite 9.50.0.530. The client is Windows 7 Pro SP1 in english. The agent on client is 9.5 3-13.

Policy.Client.Invoker.exe causing possible memory leak

Hopefully someone can help me with this. We've recently installed Landesk client 8.8 on some machines, and have seen a few of the machines process called Policy.Client.Invoker.exe exhibit high memory usage on some PC's. I've been watching my machine and noticed the memory usage rises throughout the day on this process (Started off around 6MB, and it's up to 21MB now). I've also seen a few machines with the same process using 250MB to 450MB.

So my question to you is....Is this normal behavoir for this process to keep eating away at memory on a machine? See attached file:

Thanks for any help in advance.

Oracle Discoverer 3.1 - App-V

Hey everyone,

Has anyone been able to virtualize Oracle Discoverer 3.1, or any other version for that matter?  I know it's a very old version...but we've been using it on XP for quite some time now and with us migrating to Windows 7 (which of course it doesn't work on), App-V appears to be our only way to go.  I've been able to virtualize it (after much difficulty) on XP...but still no luck running it on 7.

Thanks.

sdclient question

Is there a default setting for what sdclient uses as its default delivery method?  I am seeing some machines, when we are doing a profile migration, the sdclient will indicate have this in the sdclient.log:  "Mon, 07 Jul 2014 21:25:48 ParseCommandLine: No user logged in and fail operation".  If a user is logged in, the operation will proceed correctly.  I have tested this with just a single command in a script to download a file with the same result.  The capture profile command is ,"<qt/>C:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\LDClient\sdclient.exe<qt/> /f /o /p="http://10.3.100.55/ldlogon/LaunchProcessAsUser.exe" /disableclientqueue, STATUS ".  If that matters at all.   I am running 9.5 SP 2 with LD95-CP_BASE-2014-0417 installed.   Any thoughts?  Thanks

Installshield MSI commands fail when run as system account

Where to start with this thing. I have this installshield packaged software that I'm trying to deploy and currently it looks like it fails when run as the system account.

The commands I am sending are /s /v"/qn" which seems to work when running it from a command line but not when I run it from the system account. Either .cmd as system or from Landesk. I'll try to dig up a log file with more details.

But has anyone else run into this problem when trying to deploy .msi based install shield apps? Is there another option that I need to send or something? I don't necessarily blame installshield because the company this software comes from is VERY inconsistent with how they package their apps.

Getting AutoIT tasks to run with Win 7 and UAC and the Local System Account

$

I have a whole bunch of scripts that I've generated using AutoIT that work great on Win2k and WinXP. I'm now trying to get them to work on Windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit). I am deploying the scripts using LANDesk Management Suite version 8.8 and version 9 (two separate LANDesk core servers). The problem I'm seeing (I think) is that the UAC is stopping the programs from running (even though UAC is as disabled as much as it can be). LANDesk Management Suite downloads the scripts to the machines successfully using a pull-based technology, and then executes the scripts with the local computer SYSTEM account. The programs never display anything until I logout and log back in. I then get a message from Windows 7 telling me that there is one or more programs asking to interact with the desktop. If I allow the interaction, then Win7 goes into some sort of "secure" desktop mode (something I haven't been able to find anything about online yet), and the scripts finally show up. They can be as simple as:

#RequireAdmin MsgBox(0,'Test','Hello World!') Exit

If I manually browse to the executable and run it, after being prompted to allow it to run, the script executes successfully.

Any ideas?

Greetings everyone, We just started using Landesk.  I am starting with software distribution, is there a master list of return codes anywhere for Scheduled Tasks?  I know I can just search for them here and it's been a big help so far, I was just looking for an easier method.  Thanks for the help.

Can landesk confirm how Xtrace is enabled on client.

Do you need to create the following reg entry

HKLM\Software\LANDESK\INTEL\XTrace.

Is this all you have to do to enable this function. I want to debug sdclient Due to poliy status updates not working

Source for hidedos.exe

Trying to get a source for hidedos.exe, i've seen it attached in several threads on here, but the file doesn't appear to exist any longer. Googling isn't turning up either, just a bunch of references to it, but no actual downloads. At least not from any sites that our proxy likes. Can someone attach it or point me to the author's page?

How To Deploy New Version Of VZAccess Manager To Remote Laptops

$

So I've been given the task of updating our Verizon software "VZAccess Manager" for ~150 laptops.  Most of these systems use a Verizon card as their sole method of connecting to the internet.  This leaves me with an interesting predicament.  I'm also a little worried because the last time I upgraded VZAccess Manager, it's built in upgrade behaviour had about a 50% 'remove-only' behaviour.  In other words, the silent install that worked brilliant in my lab, just removed the old version from the end users computer, but then never installed the new version.  It was a PITA when it happened, but luckily all of the affected users were on our network.  If I kill people's internet software, I may as well smash their cell cards with a hammer.  Here are my big concerns:

  • The aforementioned uninstall issues.
  • The fact that in order for the install to work, it will kill the connection to the gateway/core server

What I did that seems to work better is to create an uninstall task and then an install task for the VZAccess software.  That way the install should go through.  The trick with doing that is I know LANDesk doesn't queue up all the files before executing.  I might get further if I made a single deployment/bat file to do everything.  Of course I'll probably get a big "FAILED" from every system.  Ugggh.  I'm half tempted to use LANDesk to download the file, copy a vbscript to their computer, and then have that vbscript get run at their next login.  Then have the vbscript remove old version of VZAccess, install new version of VZAccess, and then delete registry keys telling it to run.  Then delete itself.  This should work, but it's still kind of hit or miss.  Uuuggggghhhh.  Any suggestions?  Anyone ever done this type of thing before?  I just don't want to get all fails from LANDesk, and I don't want to risk people not having an internet connection.

P.S. I'm running 9.0 SP2

View distributed package command line parameters from Database?

Can someone jog my memory - there was a way you can view the sdclient command for a package in LANDesk - I think it was directly in the database?

You search by package ID and it shows the exact sdclient path that was executed on the machine when the package ran?

I am unsure if was in the DB or the registry -

the machine failed the prerequisite query

We are running Management Suite 9.50.2.6 and intermittently get a intermittent error of "the machine failed the prerequisite query" on policy supported push software deployments. These deployments do not have prerequisites. If we wait long enough most will eventually successfully run. I've been trying to identify a cause but as of yet have not been able to. I have run both security and inventory scans as well as rebooted and deleted the local workstation DB. Nothing has consistently resolved the issue. I've not been able to recreate at will. There is no task log created when this error is seen. Any suggestions about a cause or how to troubleshoot would be appreciated.

The Machine Failed the prerequisite query

aaarrrg, i am getting crazy about the issue.

I made some package (2) which could only be installed on Windows 7 oS.

SO in the package information, i choose the prerequisite query with all Windows 7 computers.

WHen i want to install this package for a computer X which is in the Query of WIndows 7 it keeps saying this message "The Machine Failed the prerequisite query".

When i recreate the package with another name, it works.

So i really remaing blocking on the old query.

What can i do ?

I already let the package change of prerequisite query but still, it remains.

We are unable to send out this package to a test system, any thoughts?  We are running LDMS 9.5 SP2.  It does connect, download one of the packages and starts download the other, I can see an '@@partial@@_' being created, its size grows, but after about a minute, the task fails and the partial downloaded file is left in the sdmcache folder on the client.

Here is the sdclient_task.log excerpt form the client,
