Confirm Preferred Server Config on all Clients

$
0
0

I have multiple preferred servers in remote locations and I need a way to confirm that all of the clients in a particular subnet are configured to communicate (and are communicating) with my designated preferred server. Is there an field in inventory (or anywhere else) where I can confirm that the client is configured to talk to a specific preferred server? On a related note, how can I confirm that the preferred server is replicating properly. This is a secondary need. A wholistic view of the client config is more important at this time.

Thank you!

Hi

We have just downloaded the LANDESK 9.50 on a server. It is still running in trial mode. Im trying to test Distribution packages.

Im distributing a msi package. The destination has the new agent and it appears to be working fine. When I run the task it fails on a return code 105.

Here is an extract of what I see in the "view log file" option.

I am trying to deploy a batch file that will uninstall a program using msiexec.exe and then it will install a .exe to install a new program. I have attached the batch file contents. I tested this job on my vmware session and it ran fine. It is running as the system account. On a client machine I ran this job to test and I got:

On this client's machine, it uninstalled the old program, but then did not install the new program. Is there something I did wrong in syntax? Why would this run on 2 vmware sessions fine and not on a client's machine? We are on 8.8 SP3. Also, I am running this task "Use run from source to deploy the files". I did this so I am not copying down a bunch of files to the local sdmcache.

Batch File to uninstall Adobe Acrobat (all versions)

We have several versions of Acrobat standard and pro installed, that I need to find a quick way to uninstall them. I have not been able to find uninstall script from adobe that would do this, does anyone know of one or how I could use LANDesk to go about doing this? The reason we have to remove is the versions we are using are very old and no longer supported, plus have several security issues.

Getting AutoIT tasks to run with Win 7 and UAC and the Local System Account

$

I have a whole bunch of scripts that I've generated using AutoIT that work great on Win2k and WinXP. I'm now trying to get them to work on Windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit). I am deploying the scripts using LANDesk Management Suite version 8.8 and version 9 (two separate LANDesk core servers). The problem I'm seeing (I think) is that the UAC is stopping the programs from running (even though UAC is as disabled as much as it can be). LANDesk Management Suite downloads the scripts to the machines successfully using a pull-based technology, and then executes the scripts with the local computer SYSTEM account. The programs never display anything until I logout and log back in. I then get a message from Windows 7 telling me that there is one or more programs asking to interact with the desktop. If I allow the interaction, then Win7 goes into some sort of "secure" desktop mode (something I haven't been able to find anything about online yet), and the scripts finally show up. They can be as simple as:

#RequireAdmin MsgBox(0,'Test','Hello World!') Exit

If I manually browse to the executable and run it, after being prompted to allow it to run, the script executes successfully.

Any ideas?

I'm trying to deploy a batch SD job with about 10 additional files (dll, exe, cab, etc), and on several machines I am getting this error, while on 90% of the other machines it works just fine.

16422 Failed to download all additional files for a package

$

I'm a bit of a newbie to LANDesk, and I'm having dificulty with deploying a software package.

I have a distribution package that I have created that when I run the scheduled task to deploy it fails with the following code:

16422 Failed to download all additional files for a package

I am attempting to have the client download using http. I have confirmed that I can enter the location of the files and download at least the msi via browser (in fact, I can browse the files in the structure with no problem. And I have another executable package that I can distribute via http with no issues to the same test machine).

The installation fails pretty quickly, probably within 60 seconds and I cannot find a log file that describes any kind of issue as to why. This software package has a LARGE number of additional files that are needed for the installation (in the order of ~1700 files), I don't know if that plays into it or anything?

Can someone point me to where I can get more information regarding why it's failing and what I can do about it?

Thanks in advance.

How to package Adobe Reader, Acrobat, and Flash plugin

$

I'm sure everyone on here has to have adobe packages, and we may have all different ways to make them. I've had to write a quick procedure so anyone in my office can update the package when a new version comes out. I thought I would post this for other to use. If you think it's usefull, let me know and I'll post more as I do them, and maybe other will post theirs. (I'm thinking of making up a template to fill in)... I would be great to have a library of these type of directions..

Erik

D.F. Tehnologies Ltd.

How to package adobe flash and Acrobat reader (Acrobat writer is same directions as reader)

1. Sign up for ‘official rights’ at (takes minutes):

a. http://www.adobe.com/products/players/fpsh_distribution1.html

2. DL the adobe reader and flash (active X) from the links provided in email from adobe

a. For flash DL the MSI

b. For reader you have to DL an exe

3. DL the adobe customizer wizard (for acrobat)

a. http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3993

b. Install software and copy reader.exe file to the local machine (Use c:\temp for easy typing)

4. Unpack the reader.exe file

a. Open dos window

b. Cd c:\temp (or where ever you put the file)

c. adbeRdrXXXXX.exe -nos_o"reader9" -nos_ne

d. you should now have c:\temp\reader9 with all the install files

5. Use customizer to open the MSI from above

a. Set your options and press save

6. You can test your reader install manually with the command:

a. msiexec.exe /i AcroRead.msi TRANSFORMS=acroRead.mst /qn

7. Create new distribution packages (MSI) for flash

a. Just pick the MSI you DL’d earlier

8. Create new distribution package (MSI) for reader

a. Pick AcroRead.msi as the main MSI

b. Add extra file acroread.mst

                                                               i. NOTE: MST files may not pass your IIS server if using HTTP - add as a mine type

c. Add extra file data1.cab

d. Add ‘TRANSFORMS=acroRead.mst’ after the options on the command line

9. Schedule the template and run

10. Run a patch run after to update Reader to the latest version (if you have security suite)

How to see what your bat file is doing when run as a scheduled task in LANDesk

$

Had quite a few issues recently when trying to run batch file packages. They work fine when ran directly on the machine, but not when using LANDesk. The task say ssuccessful but what was supposed to happen, hasn't.

By doing the following you can export the contents of what has happened when the bat file was run on the client exactly as you would see if running the commands locally from a cmd prompt window:

e.g Access denied, file not found etc

Right click your bat file package

Click Properties

Click Install/Unistall options

Add the following line in command line (without the quatation marks and changing install.txt to the name of your app):

"> c:\Install.txt 2>&1"

Schedule a task to run the batch file package, which should create c:\Install.txt which will show exaclty what happened on the clients

Has anyone seen this when deploying a PowerShell Package?

In Win7, it shows the following:

http://blogs.msdn.com/blogfiles/patricka/WindowsLiveWriter/WhatisInteractiveServicesDetectionandWhy_10926/image_thumb.png

http://blogs.msdn.com/blogfiles/patricka/WindowsLiveWriter/WhatisInteractiveServicesDetectionandWhy_10926/image1_thumb.png

and in WinXP it shows an empty PowerShell console.

I've checked the delivery method and it's set to "Hide all feedback from user". I've even tried adding to the command line options "-WindowStyle Hidden -NonInteractive" to no effect.

If I use VBS or if I use a CMD package to do the same thing that PowerShell is doing, it works as expected without popping anything up. Any ideas?

Running VBS script within a batch file not working properly in Landesk

Hi there, when we run the batch file from command prompt, our vbs script that we call in the batch runs no problem. Whenever we package the batch file in Landesk everything runs except the vbs file... we've tried adding cscript, wscript, start "" before it and cannot get it to work... When we run the batch file from command prompt on all the workstations with the various flags (wscript, cscript etc) we set it runs every time, but just does not run when we package it up in Landesk. Everything else runs, but not the vbs. Weird because it works fine when running manually... Is there something simple we're missing?? We're running Landesk 9...

Thanks for any insight!

Difficulty Deploying Office 2013 Standard

$

I've built a new package to deploy Office 2013 Standard, but it isn't deploying correctly.

We have an existing Office 2010 deployment package that works well, so I used it as a template for the 2013 package. Just updated the .msp and the batch file to point at the new stuff. I've attached a copy of the batch file I'm using to run it all.

Basically it does the following...

  1. Unpack a .zip to C:\media\office2013win\
  2. Copy the .MSP to C:\media\office2013win\updates\
  3. Run setup.exe

If I run the batch file manually, it does exactly what I expect it to.

If I use LANDesk to deploy the batch file it will download all the files correctly, unpack things to C:\media\, and then just kind of hang there doing nothing.

It appears that setup.exe, even with a .msp that's configured to run silently, isn't actually running completely silently. Despite the .msp attempting to completely suppress the UI, I'm still getting a brief splashscreen when setup.exe kicks off. This did not happen with 2010. I'm guessing that setup.exe is still trying to run in some semi-interactive manner, which is causing issues since it is running as the LocalSystem account.

I can confirm that the .msp is being processed, since the right options are installed with the right license key. But it doesn't seem to be running completely silent.

Has anyone else run into this issue? Does anyone else have a working Office 2013 deployment package? Is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?

I'm trying to put together a MSI distribution package for ApplicationXtender Desktop 6.5 with retrieval only option. It is a MSI install, and I have the command line as:

/i /quiet ADDLOCAL=DocumentManager /norestart

The installation files are stored on network storage. I have double checked the path and it matches what I have set up in LANDESK. I added the whole ApplicationXtender Desktop installation directory into "Additional files," minus the MSI itself. Scheduled the task and ran it, but keep getting this error:

"One or more of the depend files could not be found."

Error code 16418.

I have tried resetting the package hash, and also tried starting over by deleting and re-creating the distribution package, but nothing seems to work. What am I missing here?

Tasks scheduled stay always active when a machine is not reachable on my network

Hi everyone,

I encounter a little problem with my server landesk. Since i have installed my new server landesk 9.5 SP1 when i want to schedule a tasks and distribute a package. This operation works perfectly if all of my machines are waked up. But, if my task is scheduled :

- if one machine is not reachable on the network then my task stay active (wake up devices --> is ticked)

- and my processor rise up to 100% of usage

- and task never stop until the local scheduler service is restarted

Does anyone have got the same problem on his server ? Could you help me to solve this problem ?

I unfortunately didn't find anything on the forum, that's why i've posted this discussion.

Issue with Portal Manager on Client Machine "CreateProcess failed to launch executable"

$

Hi,

I have run into this issue a number of time and I am wondering if there is a quick way to clear the client side task history.

I have published a number of Applications via the LaunchPad Link Manager.

The idea is that if the user does NOT have the application installed, it will be pushed out as a distribution task.

If the user DOES have the application installed. It will just launch the application.

The problem I am running into is that occasionally, for whatever reason, when an application is launched via Portal Manager and is NOT installed, it generated the error "CreateProcess failed to launch executable; contact your network administrator"

Now, I know the Distribution package works because if I try immediately after on another machine, it installed without issue. It may be that the machine drops connectivity momentarily but for whatever reason it fails with this error. It seems to me like the install fails, but the Portal Manager believes it installed correctly so next time the application is launched, it actually tries to execute rather than install.

I don't have a problem with this, because I know that if I could just retry the task, it would install correctly. The problem is that I cannot retry the task, If i try to launch the task again, it generates the same error message immediately. It does not try to reprocess the task. So, what I would like to know is, is there a way to clear the task history on the client so that it will try and install again?

I have seen a number of threads which mention scripts to clear database history but I am hoping that there is an easier way to clear the history than that?

Thanks

Alex

On this client's machine, it uninstalled the old program, but then did not install the new program. Is there something I did wrong in syntax? Why would this run on 2 vmware sessions fine and not on a client's machine? We are on 8.8 SP3. Also, I am running this task "Use run from source to deploy the files". I did this so I am not copying down a bunch of files to the local sdmcache.
