Policy feedback on LD9

$

Hi, I'm testing an LD 9 core right now (also with Patch Manager, but that's a side issue to this, really). The vast majority of my machines are behind a Management Gateway and are firewalled, which means that push deployments often are not an option. I use policies and policy supported pushes all the time. Under 8.8 SP3, the feedback I got from policies was decent--sometimes machines wouldn't leave the active state, or wouldn't ever sync a policy down, but for the most part it worked. Under LD9, it's much worse.

5 days ago, I created a policy to install Silverlight on my test group of 27 computers. I know that it was not installed on any of those computers before now. On 5 of the machines, LD9 reported that the installation failed, and gave me a return code of 1514 or 1512 (these return codes don't seem to correspond to anything I've been able to find online). 18 reported "The action completed successfully" with a return code of 0. Good. 2 reported "Successfully completed installation of package" with a return code of 16385 (!). 2 merely say "Policy has been made available" with a return code of 1001.

However, 22 are listed as active, 5 are listed as failed. I've cancelled the running of the scheduled task, and they're still sitting there like that. Wha?

Further, if I run a query on silverlight, all 27 show as having it installed.

Using policies with Patch Manager is even worse. I did a test run yesterday, and I have 1 pending, 4 successful (saying "The client does not support batch file packages"), and 22 failed.

On other tests, I've seen the local policy.sync.log reporting no packages available for multiple checks, while on the core, there's a package, sitting there pending, which clearly has never been run on the client computer.

This is all very frustrating to me. Anyone else seeing this sort of issue, or is my core just special again?

Question about icon next to device name LDMS 9.6

I recently installed a pilot and purchased some licensing for LDMS 9.6.  At my previous job we have 9.0 SP4 and I noticed that there is a new icon that pops up next to device name.  It has a small S under the binoculars.

Anyone know what the "S" represents?

All jobs fail -2147467259 (0x80004005 - code 16389)

Hello All,

I am currently working with software deployments and I am running into a problem where all my jobs are failing with the same return code. I have been looking through the Self Service Portal before posting as I am sure someone ran into this issue before me although nothing seems to have fixed the problem. The permissions on the server where the software is stored looks correct (Domain admins have access to all folders and files and an admin user account was created for landesk). I tried running the job as the Local System and as the Current User and both produce this error.

I am running out of ideas and was wondering if anyone would be able to point me in a good direction.

Thanks in advance for your time and help!

How to Put key (XXXXX:XXXXX:XXXXX) in Adobe CS5 package...

Hi All,

Please let me know the process to put key in Adobe CS5 distribution package...

Cannot install packages after a failed deployment

Hi All,

I'm new to the LanDesk tool. I have been trying to resolve package deployment failures but no luck.

We deployed VC++ Runtime 2010 on a test pc where it already has the higher version of VC++ (2012) installed on it and hence the deployment failed.

After this, i tried to deploy other packages like Adobe, Office but the installation never gets triggered on the client PC. When i check the scheduled task for these packages, it shows the status as "Active", Result : "client has initiated asynchronous policy execution" and the Return Code "1354".

The last few lines of the sdclient.log file has these entries:

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 09:53:58 PostInstallInventoryScan: Successfully created inventory scanner task.

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 09:53:58 Sending task status, cmd line -coreandip=coreserver -taskid=198 -retcode=-1918091262 -complete "-log=C:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\LDClient\data\sdclient_task198.log" -pkgid=177

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 12:22:09

RunAppMain: command Line :

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 12:22:09

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 12:22:09 Task is not required to send status

Can anyone able to provide any advice on what can be done to overcome this issue?

Thanks,

Gopal

16422 Failed to download all additional files for a package

I'm a bit of a newbie to LANDesk, and I'm having dificulty with deploying a software package.

I have a distribution package that I have created that when I run the scheduled task to deploy it fails with the following code:

16422 Failed to download all additional files for a package

I am attempting to have the client download using http. I have confirmed that I can enter the location of the files and download at least the msi via browser (in fact, I can browse the files in the structure with no problem. And I have another executable package that I can distribute via http with no issues to the same test machine).

The installation fails pretty quickly, probably within 60 seconds and I cannot find a log file that describes any kind of issue as to why. This software package has a LARGE number of additional files that are needed for the installation (in the order of ~1700 files), I don't know if that plays into it or anything?

Can someone point me to where I can get more information regarding why it's failing and what I can do about it?

Thanks in advance.

Installation fails with error "One or more of the dependent files could not be found." 16418

I'm trying to put together a MSI distribution package for ApplicationXtender Desktop 6.5 with retrieval only option.  It is a MSI install, and I have the command line as:

/i /quiet ADDLOCAL=DocumentManager /norestart

The installation files are stored on network storage.  I have double checked the path and it matches what I have set up in LANDESK.  I added the whole ApplicationXtender Desktop installation directory into "Additional files," minus the MSI itself.  Scheduled the task and ran it, but keep getting this error:

"One or more of the depend files could not be found."

Error code 16418.

I have tried resetting the package hash, and also tried starting over by deleting and re-creating the distribution package, but nothing seems to work.  What am I missing here?

Java 6 Build 20 doesn't install silently on Windows 7 x64

I've been trying to get this work for a while but apparently there are issues with the installer and Win7 x64 without doing some unnecessary registry edits.

http://www.myitforum.com/forums/m215451-print.aspx

I thought I'd pass this along to other community members before any pulls their hair out like I did. The standard quiet install commands work fine within XP but in Windows 7 x64, the installer will just hang when it's deployed. The error you'll get is 1619.

If anyone has a solution, I'm all ears.

Had a custom script that ran without issue on 9.5 sp1, updated to 9.6 and now Fails.

The scheduled Task results are:

Status:Failed

Result:An invalid parameter was passed

Return Code:16408

The script is simple, it copies files and overwrites existing.

Enhanced Package Builder package not changing DWORD settings

I have created a Enhanced Package Builder package with a couple of DWORD registry settings.  I have "built" the package, but when I install the package instead of the values in package, I just have zero's.

Has anyone seen this before, or have any ideas as to what  I can do to resolve the issue?

Fatal Error During Installation - Acrobat Standard 9.0

Good Morning all:

I have been trying to put together a package for Adobe Acrobat Standard 9.  I have created a .mst file that mainly stops the auto update, does not install Air, and enters username and Company.  This is a OEM install, so I need to be able to enter the Serial Number during the install.

When trying to run the package on a test PC, I keep getting a Fatal Error.  looks like the error that I am getting is 1603.  That tells me that it is a "basic" error.  I have posted both the Log File that I get from the console, and also the log file that I get from the client.  Any help would be greatly appricated. Thanks!

Script to query dell warranty and write to registry

$

I currently have about 4300 end points. About 95% are Dell machines.

To date, we have no easy way to pull warraty info, other than exporting specific queries and copying the Service Tags into another script.

I would like to deploy a script (local and via gateway) that will query the device service tag; go to Dell and check warranty info; and report that info into the registry.

I have this VBS (copied below and attached) (courtesy of http://iboyd.net/index.php/2012/02/14/updated-dell-warranty-information-script/)

I remarked out all the wscript.echo in my actual script that I have run.

This prevents the series of pop ups.

When I run this local (from desktop or network source) it works perfect.

I get a series of registry keys under HKLM\Software\DellWarrantyInfo that provide me all the warranty info I'm looking for.

When I deploy this to targets as a "Windows Script Host" it doesn't seem to run.

I have tried without the remarked out lines and with full UI. I get prompted to Deploy, but nothing runs.

log..jpg

We will build this into our future templates for imaging, but I'd really like to get this info into the registry for existing machines.

Any help you can provide, I'd be greatful.

Thanks!

-Derek

From my understanding, when running a distribution package I can run the package as the "LocalSystem" account or the Current user's account.  Scripts are executed as the "LocalSystem" account.  The msi I need to install doesn't like using the the "LocalSystem" account for some reason and cannot figure out why.  I also can not use the Current user's account because our user's do not have the rights to do installs.  I would like to run either a distribution package or script as one of our domain admins accounts.  I'm able to use a distribution package or a script.  I need to know how to get either of them to run as a domain admin account that I will specify.  Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks.

How to change the destination directory of the distribution ; sdmcache

HI,

How to change the destination directory of the distribution? The default directory is sdmcache but I would put the temp folder to a package.
The objective is to store files for distribution (  multicast only cache) for 1 month and later to launch a setup on all computers, but all files must be present in the temp folder on each pc.

Trying to push a desktop icon to all users

Hello All,

This is probably a really simple question although I am not that knowledgeable on scripting nor pushing batch files through LANDesk, but we are trying to put a web icon on all of our employee desktops. I am sure there may be a better way to do this, if so please let me know but here is how I did it.

I created a batch script:

xcopy "\\servername\Network Support\Software\Point 11 Browser\Point 11.Ink" c:\users\public\desktop

and then created my batch script distribution package pointing to the folder the batch script is in and then creating the scheduled task. I drag my computer in for testing and it fails with error code 4.

This is the log I get when the job fails:
